- Develop and operate a common system of Air traffic control and navigation for both civil and military aircraft.
- Perform research and develop with respect to the National Airspace System and civil aeronautics
- Develop and implement programs to control aircraft noise and other environmental effect of civil aviation
- Regulate U.S. commercial space transportation
